An Open Letter to New London Bargoers

Published Jun 11, 2009

Dear Friends,

I, Matt Bailey, am co-owner of Frank’s Place with Wayne Cosentino located in New London, CT. Frank’s Place is our first business endeavor together. In the months leading up to the purchase of the property, we were excited at the prospect of carrying on the tradition of the establishment. John Duval was ultimately supportive of our endeavors at the beginning of our venture and we valued the traditions he worked so hard to establish and maintain.

In the midst of our ambitious renovations, we encountered numerous structural problems which took precedence over our initial cosmetic renovations. As we reworked Frank's Place from the inside out, we lost focus. We began to put our own interest ahead of the establishment. For this we are truly sorry. In changing the essence of Frank’s Place, we lost the vitality it had as a long-standing tradition of the gay community in New London. It was not our intention to mislead the gay community.

We have turned 9 Tilley St. back to Frank’s Place with the intention of carrying on the spirit in which it was first built. We hope to gain your support with our continued efforts to make this bar truly a property of the gay community rather than simply a bar in New London. We look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
Matt Bailey & Wayne Cosentino
