FLORIDA — The government here is considering a bill that would tweak tax credits provided to productions that film in the state, including eliminating credits for productions that include gay characters.
NBC Miami reports tax credits would increase under the proposed bill, but would create additional exceptions. The Web site reports that the bill already puts restricts movies that earn credits to ones that are “family friendly,” which includes such stipulations as no smoking, foul language or nudity/sex scenes.
The bill was proposed by Republican Stephen Precourt, who said, “Think of it as like Mayberry. That’s when I grew up — the ’60s. That’s what life was like. I want Florida to be known for making those kinds of movies: Disney movies for kids and all that stuff. Like it used to be, you know?”
Precourt’s district includes Walt Disney World, which could benefit from the tax credit, which would increase from 2 percent to 5 percent for qualified productions.
