Let’s dispel one thought right away - Kathy Griffin did not make a holiday CD. It may be called “Suckin’ it Up for the Holidays,” but the only thing that it has to do with the holidays is the release date is Nov. 3 and it has a “To:” and “From:” blank on the back.
With that out of the way, Griffin scores again - her pop culture call-outs are fresh, her sense of humor is edgy, charged and a bit vulgar, but always hilarious. Griffin bounces through topics at ease, seemingly effortlessly generating content, like it’s all off the cuff. Griffin has always had a way with words, and she’s always been gay friendly (she gives a shout-out right up front).
The new CD covers topics such as her mom, Katie Couric, Gayle and Suze Orman, all with a lightning wit that makes for an entertaining hour of comedy. What’s quite fascinating about the disc, and what partially makes it so entertaining, is you really don’t feel like it’s a comedian on stage and people in the audience; you get the vibe that it’s really a conversation, like Griffin’s just telling stories about what’s happened recently in her life. It adds to the charm and, with her over the top comedy, just adds to the hilarity
She’s in a rare class of her own, long out of the D-List, and this is well worth your money. Griffin serves up wall-to-wall laughs and continues to live up to her naughty and riotous education. It may be mis-marketed, but it is not mis-managed. Pick up a copy of this wonderful CD.
