Uncle Blabby: Long-distance relationships start with communication

Published Apr 16, 2010

Dear Uncle Blabby,

My partner and I have been together for nearly five years, we love each other very much and our relationship is great except for one thing that bothers me.

Whenever we order pizza I tell her I prefer vegetarian She usually orders and when the order comes in it’s always her favorite... sausage.

It seems petty if I want to complain about it so I don’t say anything but I think once in a while my preference could be honored.  What would be a good way for me to handle this?

Lisa,
Stamford, Conn.

Dear Lisa,

Order the pizza yourself!! Seriously, if you’ve been together for five years and that is the only thing bothering you, you have found the perfect woman. However, do you think there might be something subliminal going on with her and that sausage??

I’m the “orderer” here,

Dear Uncle Blabby,

Late last year I met a man from Britain on the Internet.  Since then we’ve been e-mailing and telephoning each other almost daily.  I am now getting pressure to visit him in England and am not sure if this is such a good idea. What are your thoughts on long distance relationships?

Ken,
Bay Shore, N.Y.

Dear Ken,

You have already been having a ‘long distance relationship’ with this guy from Britain for almost a year. Why would you ask now for my opinion? During your daily discussions have you addressed the idea of what will happen in the future? Any talk about he or you moving? Are either of your careers portable? There is much to discuss if you are seriously thinking about a long-term relationship. If you are just going to England to get shagged, there are cheaper ways of accomplishing that.

Buy American,
Uncle Blabby
