I’d like to take this opportunity to note that I, along with John, Josh and the rest of the staff at Metroline, are committed to continuing the 36-year tradition of the magazine.
Hey guys. It’s been an incredibly quick year. It seems like we were just starting off the year, and now we are in the home stretch of 2009. It’s been quite a lot of fun, but 2010 looms around the corner, and with it, more opportunity and more potential heartbreak.
That’s the angle Wayne Besen takes when he asks whether it’s worth putting our rights in the hands of voters. As always, his thoughtful commentary should open a few eyes and offer a different perspective.
Don & Tony are offering a perspective on former Metroline publisher William J. Mann, who has recently released not one, but two books. One is a book of fiction, the other non-fiction, and both are well worth your time. They delve into a number of topics with Mann that is enjoyable reading.
Also good reading, according to our Bookworm Terri, is “Gringa,” a childhood memoir by Melissa Hart that is a fun read. Josh looks at two imports from Europe in his latest CD reviews, looking at new albums from Annie and Robbie Williams. He gives them both a thumbs up.
I also had the opportunity to catch up with DJ Maryalice, a Provincetown mainstay who will be visiting Gotham Citi at the end of November. Our chat on the phone was full of laughs, and I learned quite a bit about her. I share a bit of that with you in my article.
This year has been a turbulent one, with a number of gay-oriented publications going out of business. HX magazine in New York fell earlier this year, and as we go to press word of the venerable Washington Blade’s parent company falling due to the challenging economy is saddening.
I’d like to take this opportunity to note that I, along with John, Josh and the rest of the staff at Metroline, are committed to continuing the 36-year tradition of the magazine. Thankfully, we’ve kept things going, as best as you can during these challenging times. But we couldn’t do it without our advertisers. As such, we ask you, as we do from time to time, to patronize our advertisers, and let them know that you do so in part because they support Metroline.
We will continue to build and grow Metroline in 2010; part of that build-out is to continue to evolve our Web site. Right now you can read over a year’s worth of archives, which accounts for over 200 articles, as well as see close to 50 Out & About picture sets! We’re continuing to add as time goes on - we hope at some point to archive back to the very beginning. Head to www.metroline-online.com to see what we’ve got going on.
And until next time, I’ll see you Out & About.
