Perpetual Smiles

Did you ever get a phone call from a friend and something in the back of your mind told you that this is not what it seems?  Or how about “Here we go again!”  I got one just the other day, from another good friend.  It’s just that no matter what we set out to do for the day, be it lunch or a movie or helping with sales calls it usually turns into a shopping trip. Not too long ago this friend asked me to help him pick out a suit for an event.  I happily agreed to give him a ride and my opinion on whatever he picked out.  It was worse than shopping with my ex-wife.  He was taking like forever going back and forth between a tux and a three-piece suit.  After about and hour or a month or so, I lost track of time, he picked the suit.  And that was after going all the way up to register twice.  Then he decided that he should get a new shirt while we were there.  Shit!

Actually I didn’t mind all of this up until that point but being completely bored out of my mind there was only one thing left to do.  I picked out a new suit, shirt, tie, and the works to buy for myself.  Not that I needed a new suit at all, I have several hanging in the closet, but what the hell.  I sure looked good at the event and bypassed the whole dry cleaning thing before hand.  Today we shopped at a mall we had never been in just to look around.  Just wait till my friends see me in my new shirt. It is so kick ass…

I guess what I am writing about is simply taking the time to have fun with friends in simple ways.  I may not need the clothes at all but the time we spend together is invaluable. The fact we end up buying clothes is just plain funny to us because we usually specifically plan not to. And that is what makes good memories. I love it when friends sit around and tell stories about times they have spent together and laugh.  We all need to have this in our lives.  Oscar Wilder once said; “Life is to short to be taken seriously.”  Lets all make it a plan, a promise if you may to build at least one of these memories for ourselves at least once a week from here on out.  I hope to see you out and about doing just that.
