I am writing this on the final day of 2010. Another year over and the cusp of a new one just before us. By the time you are reading this, the New Year will be underway and most everyone will have broken his or her New Years resolutions. Ah it’s so good to know something’s will never change. But one thing that will be changing this year is Metroline Magazine. With the help of some very good people we are redesigning the way our humble publication does it’s business. Times are changing as they always do. And while we all wish something’s would stay just as they are the unfortunate truth is that the world, and humanity as well, simply does not work that way.
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending a Christmas party where the host had arranged horse drawn carriage rides around his neighborhood. Now I have never been in a horse drawn carriage in my life so I decided to give it a try. So I climbed aboard with a few other partiers where we covered our legs with a “carriage throw” which is a fancy name for small blanket, and off we went. It was a surprisingly pleasant experience. The sound of the hooves, the quiet of the night and the nip in the air was so relaxing I wanted to ask if the driver could continue around the rest of the town. No such luck.
Anyway, the thought that came to mind was; Just think. People used to get around everywhere by carrage. It must have taken forever to go anywhere. And although I was glad to have the experience, I was equally glad that I would be driving home in my car with the heat on and the music playing as I sat on heated leather seats.
The moral of this story is that change is indeed inevitable. Some is absolutely for the best like gay marriage. And while we tend to curse technology from time to time we all love enjoying the benefits it brings to society. As such, we need to move our magazine into the future in a way that we can continue to publish it. We have a lot of ideas and we will be starting slow and then picking up speed as we figure out what works as well as what you the readers want to see. If you have any ideas we are hoping you will e-mail or facebook them to us. I hope you like what we have in mind so keep your eyes open and watch us move further into the future.
I hope you have a happy and fruitful 2011 and I will see you Out & About.
