It’s Halloween!  Well, it will be next week anyway.  I for one cannot wait to see all the costumes you guys will be coming up with for this year’s season.  As always the shows and contests promise to provide some much needed entertainment.  Gotham Citi, The Brass Rail, The Pub, Gation, Kriola The Bunk House, just to name a few are going all-out to make Halloween parties this year a blast. And I hear there are some really outstanding prizes to be had as well.  So dust off your imagination and come up with a costume, don’t worry about who will see you – (you can wear a mask) get out and support the clubs that are there for us week in and week out.

In this issue we have some items of interest for you.  The overall theme is that even though we are entering the fall/winter seasons, there is still a lot of things to do.  And this year it is even more important that we keep going out.  The clubs and destinations we all love have weathered a pretty rough economic storm and managed to stay open for us.  As I talk to owners all over New England, the one statement they all seem to have in common is that they can’t believe they are still open. Most of them managed by digging into their winter survival budgets to make ends meet.  They did that for us, and now we need to do our part by getting out and saying thank you by supporting them through the winter.  As such, we have a couple of great pieces from Don and Tony.  Going out to the theater is a great evening and can be fashionably followed by a few drinks and a dance at the local club.  But also they provide a look at fun vacations or weekend jaunts that can still be had throughout the cold season.  Give it a read; it will be worth your time.

I would like to touch on a very important issue to the gay community for a second.  And that is President Barack Obama’s promise to end the ban in the military.  I know that many of us feel it is long over due.  Make no mistake, it is. But to think the president can simply wave a magic wand and end it is a bit naive. President Bill Clinton tried and was meet with insurmountable opposition from congress. Many of those same hurdles will need to be dealt with and president Obama will need all of our support in doing so. Not ridicule because it isn’t being done according to our desired timetable. Remember the man has more gigantic issues on his desk right now than any other recent president has had to deal with. I believe he will get to it when he can dedicate the time and passion he has for everything he believes in.  And that’s when it will succeed.  If he goes after too many things at once, it will just be that much easier for his opponents to tear him down.  Give him the time and support he needs, and I think he will come through.

Hey, it’s Halloween!  I hope to see you Out and About.
